Responses to the Montague County Child Welfare Board's 'Deep in
the Heart of Texas' Ranch Rodeo in Bowie and subsequent Gala at
Daddy Sam's in Nocona have been overwhelming. The generosity of
the citizens of our communities was fantastic and generated
funds which sill enable us to meet many needs of neglected and
abused children in Montague County. Our problems are county-wide
and the support of friends of the Child Welfare Board from the
various towns in the County was impressive. We have on of the
worst records in the state for child abuse and neglect, largely
due to drug abuse by the parents. During this next year, the
Child Welfare Board will work toward drug education initiatives
and the establishment of a Child Advocacy Center, where child
care professionals can come together with affected children to
help with their difficult situations.
