In late September, the Montague County child Welfare board
hosted the 'Deep in the Heart of Texas' Ranch Rodeo at the Bowie
rodeo Grounds with twenty-six teams competing. Local rancher and
six time National Rodeo All-Around Cowboy Champion, Larry Mahan,
was on hand to provide some color in the announcing booth and
added lots of humor and insight. We hosted Gala the following
weekend at Daddy Sam's in Nocona. this was a very exciting event
that featured wonderful food, music provided by the awesome band
Two Tons of Steel, and a live and silent auction. The auction
included some very eclectic items including a night at the Gray
Bar Hotel (Montague County Jail) and a catered affair at Daddy
Sam's. Both events were a huge success that depended on the
support of the residents of Montague County.
Thanks to all who participated and supported these functions.
The Montague County Welfare Board hopes to continue it;
anti-meth program 'Montague Minus Meth' this year. During the
2008-2009 school year, our custom designed program was presented
to all Montague County middle and high schools. This program
gained notoriety from its explicit video images and a presenter
who identified with the kids and talked to them 'straight up'
about the dangers of meth. Our theme for the program was 'Not
Even Once' as studies show one try is all it takes to get hooked
on meth. |
